A Modern Guide To Spring Cleaning

By amyo | Internet | Comments are Closed | 20 April, 2026 | 0

For some people, once Spring hits, they're itching to spring-clean and freshen things up around their homes. For a lot of people, spring cleaning can feel very overwhelming. The thought of going through stacks of papers, closets of unworn clothing, boxes and totes of other stored items can be daunting. Mostly because you may feel like the process will take forever to accomplish: deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Frankly, it's the last thing you want to do because there are other "fun" things you'd rather be doing, but you can't avoid it much longer.

Maybe a little motivation, a checklist, and ways to put tech to work are just the things will that kick-start you and get you revved up, ready to clean.

Music is a good motivator that's not just for fitness. Music can boost your mood for any activity your doing, cleaning included. And, if you can believe it, you can find playlists specially curated just for housework. Find "cleaning" playlists on the music apps, like iHeartRadio, iTunes, Spotify. It'll get you pumped up and ready to clean. To find them, go to the magnifying glass icon in the music app and type in "cleaning" or "housework" in the search field and they'll appear.

Another way to access music motivation by using your smart TV and going to YouTube to play your favorite artist or genre of music. Have a smart speaker? Ask Google or Alexa to... "play some cleaning music" for whole house experience. The surround sound of up-beat music will have you moving, grooving, and cleaning, no matter what room you're in!

Family or friends helping out can be good motivation to get some spring cleaning done. Having another set of hands can make the job easier, the time go fast, and the work seem fun. Mobility changes as we age and there is no shame in asking for assistance from others in completing some tasks. And, some people love to clean. Give them a chance to do something they enjoy! A thank you to them could simply be offering them lunch. Another way find some helping hands is to contact a leader of a youth group in your area. They are often looking for ways to volunteer their time or opportunities to raise a little money. Throwing a "cleaning party" can be great motivation, whether it's a party of 2, or a whole crew!

If you're using your smart TV or smart speaker, you've already started putting tech to work in helping you spring clean. IF you're getting good that and want to try something new consider a robot vacuum, to help you out with some weekly upkeep. Robot vacuums have come long way in technology and have come down in price. You can find them as low as $90 on up. A good average price for just a vacuum model (no mop) is about $249-299. The nice thing about them is that you can map out areas in your home and schedule the vacuum to clean as often as you'd like, maybe high traffic more often and stay out of certain rooms and areas you don't want it in.

You can even personalize your robot vacuum by giving it a name, maybe "Wally, the Wonder Vac!" The best part is that they run while you're away from home to: combat pet hair, help avoid crumbs on socks, and reach under beds and other furniture where it tough to reach and dust can hide. If you're not sure about a robot vacuum quite yet, consider a cordless stick vacuum, which is lightweight, affordable and easy to use.

Well, there's a reason why you have either heard someone say it, or said it yourself, "I don't do windows." because cleaning windows isn't much fun. If you agree, then here's the tech for you! There are now "window cleaning" robots. You fill them up with a cleaner, attach them to a window, and watch them go. They start at $136 and go up. This may have got the attention of people with very large windows in their home or a lot them. It may be some smart tech to consider, especially if you feel you spend as much on paper towels, cleaning supplies, and your time in cleaning yours. Hey, you might just save money and get your time back!

Smart Purifiers are a way to keep the dust out of the air and off the floor. They can also helpful by limiting spring allegrens. Smart humidifiers may be another tech item to consider. They don't do much for cleaning, but definitely nice for comfort, especially you feel like your home is dry and staticky. Each of these devices can be easily scheduled to turned on at ran at your convenience with manufacturer's app.
